Psalm 71 verses 5 – 8 – Song: God, you’re my everlasting hope (Words: Isaac Watts)
Psalm 71 verses 5 – 8
5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord,
my confidence since my youth.
6 From birth I have relied on you;
you brought me forth from my mother’s womb.
I will ever praise you.
7 I have become a sign to many;
you are my strong refuge.
8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring your splendor all day long.
While thinking about some lyrics for the theme of Psalm 71 I found some hymn words by Isaac Watts.
I love the imagery Isaac Watts has drawn from these verses. That of someone reading the book of my life and finding God’s love on every page and in every line evidence of me giving God praise.
I am toying with writing something with this image as a chorus and also might try to reshape the words of verse one. Appropriate rhymes with hope are not plentiful!
Anyway here is the first version. As this is just for me it is as you might expect a rocky one.

1. God, you’re my everlasting hope,
I lean upon your truth;
your hands have held my childhood up,
and strengthened all my youth;
2. Still has my life new wonders seen
unfolding every year;
behold, my days that yet remain,
I trust them to your care.
3. Then, in the history of my age,
when others view my days,
they’ll read your love on every page,
in every line, your praise.
4. Then, in the history of my age,
when others view my days,
they’ll read your love on every page,
in every line, your praise.
